Having your wisdom tooth removed is not exactly something to look forward to, a visit to the dentist is definitely last on my list of things to do. However I did just that last night after discovering the day before my top left wisdom tooth was cracked after biting on a hard shell (seafood, how can I live without them!). I did a quick search on Google for “recommended dentist ho chi minh city” and discovered Maple Healthcare Crush psp

Woke up early and made an appointment at 1PM. Reached their District 1 branch and was sort of surprised to see their building to be smaller in size than what I had in mind but after entering the building I was taken back by the nice cozy design. You’ll feel like you’re in a small fancy hotel trying to check-in for the day! After filling up a form (my first time there) I was ushered into a small room for teeth inspection, the lady dentist then asked several questions. Told her of the problem and mentioned that I’m extremely nervous about the needle part, she then offered a suggestion of using IV sedation and I can sleep throughout the whole procedure. It was music to my ears and immediately I opted for it! A nurse then came into the room and proceed to administer IV sedation, she explained the procedure and told me to relax and not to worry. I think it took less than 2mins before I went to sleep as I remembered the nurse putting bandages on my hand to secure the needle and the dentist asking me to open my mouth to place a rubber thingy to prevent my mouth from closing. Then I saw a red cotton swab…. *lapse* the dentist is now doing minor checking on the rest of my teeth, I asked her when will she starts the operation and she told me the tooth is already out! I was like, holly *****! That was awesome! When did it happened? There was like a second or two lapse between swabbing and checking and the whole thing was over just like that!
When I got out of the room the dentist did an x-ray on my teeth and showed the empty socket where my wisdom tooth was once were. She also pointed out that my bottom left wisdom tooth will also have to go and it will be a more delicate procedure as it’s growing horizontally and will require minor surgery. I bravely replied no problem, as long as I’m under IV sedation I can go through anything she wants me to! I will most probably schedule another visit next month for fillings and teeth whitening when I’m back from Manila before Christmas.
How much did it cost me? US$265, it was well worth the price!

Hi Martin,
I also have a fear of dentist and been thinking of getting my dental work done overseas. I live in Australia and was quoted 5000 Aus dollars for several crowns. I am thinking of going to Vietnam or Thailand to visit the dentist and some holiday. I sent email of my Australia dentist plan to Maple and they quoted me one third the price. did they really put you out for the treatment? If they can, I rather go Vietnam then. I really hate dentists.

I’m not too afraid of dentist, I can withstand a little bit of pain here and there during drilling.
It’s quite funny as I’m OK with needle when they are used for drawing blood and whatnot but the thought of a needle sticking inside my mouth terrifies me! It was my 1st time experiencing IV sedation too! You have to request for it and they charge you depending on how long is your dosage. Mine is around US$150 if I’m not mistaken, can’t remember at the moment.
The place is mostly visited by Expats and rich Vietnamese. Although it’s advertised as operated by foreigners I didn’t manage to catch a glimpse of any foreign dentists around, probably my luck. No worries though, the local staff is just as good!
